Keighley Timber customer Steve Thorpe runs Haworth-based Steve Thorpe & Son Gardening Ltd (you may have seen their van around town.) They do gardening in schools, businesses and the local community and buy a lot of treated timber and decking from us for their projects, which include building low-height vegetable planters for primary school children in all shapes and sizes (including robots and wagons – see pictures!)
We asked Steve why he uses Keighley Timber:
“When the timber merchants that I used to go to closed and moved without letting me know, I decided to find somewhere else to buy timber and other materials I needed for my gardening projects. As a local business owner myself, I like to shop local and support local businesses so when someone recommended Keighley Timber, I thought I’d give them a try.
“Right from the outset, the lads who work there were really helpful and gave me a really good price when I told them that I work with schools and children’s centres. They always have everything I need and when I ring up they get everything ready for me to pick up, which makes it quick and easy for me.
“It’s good to get a bit more of a personal touch when buying gardening materials. If there’s something I want, they’ll go out of their way to get it and if I’m not sure what I need, they’ll advise me on what will work best. Because the service is so good, I don’t even bother getting quotes from elsewhere.
“Their high quality treated timber decking boards are perfect for making long-lasting vegetable planters for schools and are the perfect height for kids to work at. They’re also good for making smaller planters for children to take home. I also use their treated timber to make bird nesting boxes and feeders for my clients, and their fencing for some of my domestic customers.
“I’d definitely recommend Keighley Timber to other local businesses and also home/garden/allotment owners. As well as stocking high quality materials, they’re really friendly and will help you find whatever you’re looking for.”
